Blockchain for the wine sector
- Description
It all began with an innovation from Avery Dennison that gave birth to an industry. In 1935, a troubled employee named Stan Avery devised a more intelligent product pricing system for stores. By combining used machine components and a jigsaw, and financing the project with a one hundred dollar loan, he created and patented the first die-cut self-adhesive label machine. Thanks to Stan Avery’s invention, the self-adhesive label sector was born.
Define our sector through innovation — Focus on
emulsion adhesives
The 1980s: The first with emulsion adhesives. In response to the awareness that departing from solvent-based adhesives would have allowed manufacturers to reduce emissions of volatile organic compounds, and to meet European regulations, we stubbornly pursued the development of polymer-based adhesives in water dispersion. The biggest obstacle: dissolving the foam present during the phase in which these less viscous emulsion adhesives were applied to the paper. We quickly learned that emulsion adhesives also had other advantages in addition to their low environmental impact. They allowed our customers to increase the transformation speed and were compatible with a wide range of front materials.
Our commitment to the development of emulsion adhesives has paid off, we were in fact the first to offer them on a large scale.

We’re a global materials science company specializing in the design and manufacture of labels and packaging materials for virtually every industry. We work with converters, brands and designers to create innovative, sustainable, and intelligent labels that protect, inform, decorate and engage. Whatever your industry, whatever your application, and whatever design challenge you face, your next label—and labelling’s future—begins with Avery Dennison.
When Stan Avery invented the first self-adhesive label, one thing held up the whole idea: the adhesive. Today, processors and brands around the world rely on Avery Dennison adhesives to ensure that their labels are properly transformed, comply with applicable regulations, offer reliable performance in real conditions, and, of course, look fantastic.
Avery Dennison has a unique and complete offer of all three self-adhesive technologies for making emulsion, hotmelt, and solvent-based adhesives for any application need.
Suitable for both smooth and rough surfaces and for various levels of contamination, our adhesives are suitable for a whole range of applications in the healthcare, pharmaceutical, and personal care sectors, for the labeling of durable goods, wine and beer and logistics. Some are designed to ensure rapid sealing at extreme temperatures; all meet regulatory standards and are designed with a focus on sustainability.

PKG: Break the limits, be unbreakable
That’s our outlook on the world. We could start by saying we’re “a leading company in the packaging machinery industry that provides a fully comprehensive service” or that “we’re the best and so are our machines and… blah blah blah”. Boring, isn’t it? Anyway, it seems they’re all leading and innovative companies. Rather we like
